The Laboratory for Data Science and Analytics (LDSA), Department of Computer Science, South Asian University, New Delhi, India is organizing a one day symposium on "Emerging Trends in Deep Learning and Data Analytics" on June 21, 2022. The objective of this symposium is to bring together the expert from academia and industry to share ideas and discuss the techniques to harness the full potential of deep learning and data analytics techniques to make machines more intelligent. The agenda of this symposium is to discuss various data analytics and deep learning tools and techniques, recent developments and challenges in the field and evolving future research directions.

Mohammed J. Zaki is a Professor of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY, USA. He is also the associate department head and the graduate program director for the CS department at RPI. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Rochester in 1998. His research interests focus on developing novel data mining and machine learning techniques, especially for applications in text mining, social networks, bioinformatics and personal health. He has around 300 publications (and 6 patents), including the Data Mining and Machine Learning textbook (2nd Edition, Cambridge University Press, 2020). He is the founding co-chair for the BIOKDD series of workshops. He is currently an associate editor for Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, and he has also served as Area Editor for Statistical Analysis and Data Mining, and as Associate Editor for ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, and Social Networks and Mining. He was the program co-chair for SDM'08, SIGKDD'09, PAKDD'10, BIBM'11, CIKM'12, ICDM'12, IEEE BigData'15, and CIKM'18, and he is co-chairing CIKM'22. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for ACM SIGKDD. He was a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Department of Energy Early Career Principal Investigator Award, as well as HP Innovation Research Award, and Google Faculty Research Award. Hisresearch is supported in part by NSF, DARPA, NIH, DOE, IBM, Google, HP, and Nvidia. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the ACM.
Lipika Dey is a Senior Consultant and Principal Scientist at Tata Consultancy Services, India with over 20 years of experience in Academic and Industrial R&D. She heads the Web Intelligence and Text Mining research group at Innovation Labs. Lipika's research interests are in the areas of content analytics from social media and News, social network analytics, predictive modeling, sentiment analysis and opinion mining, and semantic search of enterprise content. Her focus is on the seamless integration of social intelligence and business intelligence. She is keenly interested in developing analytical frameworks for the integrated analysis of unstructured and structured data. Lipika publishes her work in various International Conferences and Journals. She has also presented her earlier works at Sentiment Analysis Symposium and Text Mining Summit. Lipika was awarded with the Distinguished Scientist award by TCS in 2012. Prior to joining the industry in 2007, Lipika was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, from 1995 to 2006. She has several publications in international journals and refereed conference proceedings. Lipika has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, M.Tech in Computer Science and Data Processing and 5 Year Integrated M.Sc in Mathematics from IIT Kharagpur.
Muhammad Abulaish is a Sr. Associate Professor and Chairperson at the Department of Computer Science, South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi, India with over 22 years of experience in Academic and Research. Before joining SAU, he has worked as Full Professor and Head of the Department at Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University with A++ grade by the NAAC), New Delhi, India. He has also worked as the Head of the Internet Surveillance and Forensics research group at the Centre of Excellence in Information Assurance, King Saud University, Riyadh, KSA. Abulaish received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2007. His research interests focus on developing novel data analytics and machine learning techniques, especially for applications in text mining, social network analysis, biomedical informatics, data-driven cybersecurity, and digital forensics. He has over 120 research publications in various international journals, books, and conference proceedings, including seven papers in IEEE/ACM Transactions. He is an Associate Editor of the Social Network Analysis and Mining, Springer. He has served several reputed international conferences including SDM, CIKM, IJCAI-ECAI, PAKDD, Web Intelligence, and BIOKDD as TPC member. He has also served WI'19 and WI'20 as a publicity co-chair, and ASONAM'20 as a workshop co-chair. He is also an editorial board member and reviewer of various journals of repute. He is a senior member of IEEE, ACM, and CSI. He is also a life member of ISTE, IETE, and ISCA.
Shachi Sharma is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi. She received her PhD degree from the School of Computer and System Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, in 2007. Her total work experience of more than 22 years is a mix of academia and industry. She worked with Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) India, Alcatel-Lucent India Private Limited and Bharti Telesoft (now Tech Mahindra), India before completing her PhD degree. Post PhD, she was a research scientist with IBM Research Laboratory, New Delhi, India from 2008 to 2017. She was a visiting faculty with Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi, India, in 2018. Thereafter, she joined Department of Computer Science, South Asian University, New Delhi, India. Her research work is substantiated by many international research publications and U.S. patents. Her research interests include stochastic modeling and applications of maximum entropy framework in diverse areas of Computer Science. Presently, she is working on designing appropriate traffic models for IoT and 5G communication systems. She has received Research Accomplishment Awards at IBM Research Lab for her projects on SIP Service Management, Presence Technologies, Solution Information Management and Spatio-Temporal Analytics on Big Data Platforms.
